First in line! While waiting out in the cold at Hypnotic Doughnuts for 30 minute on a conveniently placed yard chair as if some new Jordan’s were about to release, I had time to reflect on my life… ‘Is this what it’s come down too? It’s Sunday morning and I’m waiting for a donut shop to open’. As more people arrived, I started to not feel as bad.
It’s 7:30 am on a Sunday morning, and this place doesn’t open till 8am! Guess they don’t have the same amount of desire to getting up at 3am as a normal Korean owned donut shop. But who can blame them, with Goodfriend Bar being down the street, I too would cherish every second of extra sleep to shake off the previous night’s libations.
When doors opened, I was taken back a how much these donuts resembled my desert plate at an open buffet. Just piles of sweet shit on unhealthy shit. But I ain’t complaining. With creations like Evil Elvis (peanut butter, bacon, banana, and honey), Hell Fire (glazed donut, vanilla frosting, fresh jalapenos, habaneras, and Serrano), and Poppin’ (strawberry frosting and crushed berry pop tarts), loosing a leg to diabetes doesn’t sound so bad.
